The Importance of Investor Attention

Attention-based buying is a very common investment decision-making practice for individual investors. As compared to institutional investors, individuals are strongly biased towards buying attention-grabbing stocks and relying upon non-genuine news from the Internet. Further, they have less sophisticated investment techniques available and hence, their investment behavior is often influenced by attention. The two fundamental questions of this book are first, how can attention actually be measured and second, does attention-based investing influence the pricing of stocks? The book presents a relatively new approach for measuring investor attention and applies the Internet search volume on Google as the decisive proxy. The study suggests that a relatively large increase in the Google search volume is associated with a rise in the level of investor attention. Based on this assumption, the book empirically shows that investor attention and stock price movements are interrelated and that by enhancing the level of investor attention, a company has the power to temporarily increase its market value.

Class Action in French Corporate Law

This paper argues that U.S.-style class action would provide greater protection to the investor in France by acting in tandem with public enforcement as a deterrent and by increasing investor confidence. The first part describes the pros and cons of American-style class actions and the second part examines the prospects of introducing such a procedure into the French legal system. The French government proposed a bill in 2006 limited to consumer class action which was criticized as too benign. The author is of the opinion that a fully fledged class action would be beneficial to French markets arguing that a procedural mechanism covering both investors and consumers would increase investor confidence, benefit capital markets, mitigate manager/owner agency costs and promote greater disclosure and better corporate governance practices in France.

Investing in the stock market has always been tricky for a common investor. Most of the people lose money in the stock market instead of making money. The reason for the same is the wrong selection of the investment in some cases only. In most of the cases, however, the reason is the wrong timing of the decision to buy or to sell the investment. The problem of wrong timing can be solved by using the different methods of the technical analysis. I have developed one such method with a reasonably good degree of accuracy. It is very easy for a common investor to understand and to use. An investor can master the method of using the Hemant Kanade Style 1 Average within a few days after reading this book thoroughly. A greater amount of practice of using this method makes an investor quite comfortable with the stock market analysis and can deal in the stock market quite confidently. This is my second book for novel investors and even for intra-day traders. One more guide to time the investment decisions properly.

This book offers insights into three different aspects of financing companies with venture capital (VC) and corporate venture capital (CVC) using three independent and specific datasets. First the study analyses particular VC financing mechanisms depending on differences in the national institutional framework and the experience of the VC investor. The question whether the actual value-adding ability of VC investments in contrast to CVC investments differs from a portfolio company's perspective is discussed in the second chapter. Finally, the time-dependent performance of CVC investments is analysed.
