The gap between the rich and the poor has widened in the past 20 years to unsustainable levels. And with every new economic down-turn, this gap is getting worse. The value of skilled labor is falling since the 1990s due to technological advances. The fundamental idea of capitalism, skilled labor, is at stake. The book calls for a paradigm shift from nation-centered capitalism to human-centered capitalism. The author challenges the current capitalistic paradigm that is based on skilled labor. He challenges the reader to make a living without a salary or an hourly wage. He breaks with the idea that selling our skilled labor is a way to make money. Instead, he claims that it is possible to leverage technology and our investor sophistication to grow our wealth by acquiring assets while offering our skilled labor only in a philanthropic manner. For centuries, skilled labor has been the source of income for the vast majority of us. But today, wages and salaries are not keeping up because of an army of robots, controlled by technology that can do the same work cheaper. It becomes evident that income generated from skilled labor is no longer sufficient to make a living for many of us. A suggested Universal Basic Income without a clear understanding of how to invest is not a solution to this emerging problem. Instead, the author outlines a future in which individuals can create wealth without working for money. Anderson claims that technology will not take all our jobs immediately, but he stresses that technology will change the role of employment in our society.

To the Brink and Back: India's 1991 Story , Hör...

In 1991 India faced its 'Greece moment': an unprecedented financial crisis against the backdrop of political uncertainty and crumbling investor confidence. On 21 June 1991, P. V. Narasimha Rao became prime minister and appointed Dr Manmohan Singh as finance minister. In less than 35 days, the Rao-Singh duo ushered in momentous changes in economic policy - those that transformed the country. To the Brink and Back is the first account of the weeks of fast-paced change, narrated by an insider - a key aide of the prime minister, uniquely positioned both to participate and observe. It includes brisk accounts of the early days of survival; the compulsions and convictions that propelled a paradigm shift in India's economic policy; and the ups and downs, twists and turns in the saga of fiscal reform. Along with the author's astute insights, the book holds key documents and notes, placed for the first time in the public domain; the personal papers of Narasimha Rao; private conversations with Manmohan Singh; Parliament proceedings; and the minutes of seminal Congress meetings. Coming as it does on the eve of the silver jubilee of India's economic liberalization, To the Brink and Back will appeal not only to political history enthusiasts but also to those who wish to know how countries can be led from the brink to a radically new economic future. 1. Stochastic Dominance Option Pricing
106,78 € *

This book illustrates the application of the economic concept of stochastic dominance to option markets and presents an alternative option pricing paradigm to the prevailing no arbitrage simultaneous equilibrium in the frictionless underlying and option markets. This new methodology was developed primarily by the author, working independently or jointly with other co-authors, over the course of more than thirty years. Among others, it yields the fundamental Black-Scholes-Merton option value when markets are complete, presents a new approach to the pricing of rare event risk, and uncovers option mispricing that leads to tradeable strategies in the presence of transaction costs. In the latter case it shows how a utility-maximizing investor trading in the market and a riskless bond, subject to proportional transaction costs, can increase his/her expected utility by overlaying a zero-net-cost portfolio of options bought at their ask price and written at their bid price, irrespective of the specific form of the utility function. The book contains a unified presentation of these methods and results, making it a highly readable supplement for educators and sophisticated professionals working in the popular field of option pricing. It also features a foreword by George Constantinides, the Leo Melamed Professor of Finance at the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago, USA, who was a co-author in several parts of the book.

Capital Markets and Financial Assets
49,00 € *

This book is a discourse on the capital market and its interactive framework of acquisition and issuance of financial assets for investors and issuers of capital assets. The monograph consists of four essays in financial economics that offer a spectrum of revisions to the existing literature. Chapter 1 is a delineation of the capital markets over the past half century and major developments on these markets on issues that pertain to the investor s opportunity set and the corporation s capital-raising availability set. Chapter 2 is a rework on the Markowitz-Roy-Tobin structure of the efficient frontier and of the Separation Theorem. Taking the paradigm from a 2-asset to an n-asset portfolio, revision-theoretic exercises are performed under a comparative-statics framework, and the effect of a perceived risk/return change is explored. Chapter 3 questions the legitimacy of existing capital structure literature, points out the obfuscation of Modigliani-Miller s Value Invariance Proposition, and corrects the major result. Chapter 4 is a re-examination of MM s analysis with taxes. It is demonstrated that the literature needs correcting, and modifications on the classic results are shown.
